The Gondrand transport company makes their photos of each operation available to you on slides.

  • - Shipping of 4 giant mirrors (8.20 m diameter) and 4 cells for the V.L.T. (Very Large Telescope) for the ESO base (European Southern Observatory) in PARANAL (CHILE), in the ATACAMA desert, at 2740 m above sea level. The materials left the Parisian and Loire river region in exceptional transports: afterwards, they were transferred to a flat boat to be shipped from MARSEILLE and the HAVRE in “heavy shipping” boats to ANTOFAGASTA –CHILE- before being redirected to the final destination, in part through an improved route thanks to a leveler.

  • Floating and towing a gate door (34 m long/15 m high and 600 metric tons) for maritime jobs with the National Navy (DCN) through the Mediterranean sea, from the FOS/MER port to TOULON.

  • Exceptional shipment transport (secondary mirrors) from Belgium for the V.L.T. ESO in PARANAL (CHILE), as a complement to the giant mirrors and necessary to operate the telescope interferometer.

  • Within the framework of the installation of a new explosives plant in Peru, Gondrand took charge of all of the logistics from the Billy Berclau plant to the destination port in Callao.
Together with the Roncq agency for all of the Customs services, Gondrand Vitrolles’ "Overseas" service was able to adapt its tools so that the tanks and the refrigeration material were loaded and transported in the best possible conditions in the Anvers port.
There was not any waiting time, all of the trucks arrived within a 45 minute window, leaving personnel with enough time to load the tanks.
Through coordination with the maritime company, the tanks were unloaded with the utmost care.
The goods were loaded in a conventional ship, which will sail for the Callao port on 21/01/2006.
The essential point in this shipment is the coordination of the trucks, because all of the goods need to be loaded in the morning to free up the space.
